When it comes to our brain’s health, it’s typically put on the back burner when we don’t think anything serious is wrong. But what happens when you can’t recall things the way you used to? What about when you literally can’t remember what you did yesterday? Many turn to fad diets like the Mediterranean diet to fix this problem. In reality those changes to your diet are fine, but they are not the end all be all. Sometimes you require the help of nootropics like Noopept.
The word Noopept is the brand name of a nootropic called N-Phenylacetyl-L-prolylglycine ethyl ester. Aside from its brand name, it also goes by GVS-111 and omberacetam. In any case, this compound is under the umbrella of nootropics and works in a different way. What we mean by that is that it is a prodrug. Prodrugs are compounds that get metabolized by the body once used and can be helpful in making other compounds absorb or be distributed a certain way. The main goal of these substances is to make other compounds more easily absorbed by your body.
Noopept first became synthesized in 1996. It is said to modulate the acetylcholine system and AMPA receptors. The modulation process of acetylcholine allows the body to create higher levels of it than normally created within the body’s natural abilities. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter in the brain and body, and it transmits messages from cell to cell. Some of these cells may include neurons or muscle cells. Not only that, but this particular neurotransmitter is also part of the memory function of the brain. As for AMPA receptors, these are receptors specifically used with glutamine. They basically mediate quick synaptic transmission in the central nervous system.
For many adults, stress is a commonality that we would all love to get rid of. To do so, Noopept combines both nootrope and neuroprotective properties. Nootrope is just a fancy way of saying that it improves a person’s cognitive functions. In a study completed with rats, the level of NGF and BDNF genes in the frontal cortex, hypothalamus, and hippocampus were studied. After receiving 0.5mg/kg for twenty-eight days of Noopept, the rats had increased levels of BDNF in both the hypothalamus and hippocampus. This all resulted in the reduction of stress-induced kinase.
Mice in this particular study had an olfactory bulbectomy done prior to treatment. This variation of animal typically develops Alzheimer’s disease, which includes the impairment of spatial memory, among other complications. In order to test spatial memory, the Morris water maze was used. A dose of Noopept at 0.01mg/kg was administered daily for twenty-one days and then five days more during training. The substance was found to restore spatial memory and even increase serum antibody levels. All in all, it was decided that the nootropic in question is useful in improving cognitive deficits caused by neurodegenerative disease.
As with many compounds, a few side effects have been reported. However, they are typically minor, if experienced at all. Some of the most common ones include irritability or nausea. Also, if taken close to the time you go to sleep, it can, in some cases, cause insomnia. Aside from these few side effects, it is well tolerated by many of its users.
Dosages are pretty straight forward and can range between 10 and 40mg a day. Since it’s so much more potent than other nootropics like piracetam it doesn’t require as high of a dose. As a rule of thumb, starting out on the lower end of the doses and then adjusting as needed is a best practice for Noopept. Everyone is different so it may end up taking a few tries to get the dose right.
In any case, when it comes to brain health, nothing stacks up to the benefits that nootropics have. They can help you improve your memory and even help with stress, focus, and your moods. Don’t trust diet alone to be the game changer for your brain. Take a leap of faith and trust that nootropics are the way to go for all of your neurological needs.
