You may not realize, but there are actually not just two or three types of health. There are five, to be exact. In most cases, we hear about the most common ones, such as physical and even emotional health. But our health also includes our social health, spiritual health, and intellectual health. Let’s take a further look at them so that you can better understand the differences and needs of various dimensions of wellness, shall we?
First on the docket is physical health. What constitutes physical health? Well, are you getting enough exercise? Eating healthy? Are you getting enough sleep? These are all aspects of physical health. Physical health literally refers to how you’re treating your body overall. Are you giving it the right foods, the right exercise, and enough food to keep your metabolic rate steady? If you are doing all these things, you’re in a pretty good balance regarding physical health. But it’s not the only type of health that needs consistency. This brings us to the following kind of health: emotional health.
We’re not talking about only one sex here, either. Both men and women experience emotions and, therefore, need to maintain healthy ways to deal with and express emotions. Basically, if you’re like most of us, there are no doubt some emotional stressors in your life. How do you deal with them? Do you shut down or go off? All of these things can affect your own personal emotional health. Maintaining a positive attitude in problematic times may be your default. It’s okay to feel all the feels. Happiness, sadness, anger, frustration, and all the other odds and ends to being human.
The only time that this can become an issue is when it is overwhelming. This means that if you’ve been in a bout of depression for more than a few days, have lost complete interest in everything that you enjoy, or can’t get out of a slump. In most cases, this can be helped through talking to someone or even speaking to your doctor and being given things like antidepressants and antianxiety medications. Of course, these courses of action are not for everyone. You may instead want to try stuff like CBD or even nootropics to help with anxiety and depression.
Now, you’re probably confused about why social health is even a type of health. The truth is we’re naturally social as a species. It’s how we evolve and grow. So, going out and getting involved in your community is essential for your own well-being. So, go out and do things with friends; make sure you balance your social life with other aspects of your overall health. And one of the hardest things you may have to do is learn to take the blinders off.
What do I mean by that? Well, to metaphorically rip the band-aid off. Learn to recognize when a relationship is unhealthy, whether it’s a family, friend, partner, or otherwise. The quicker you realize the relationship is toxic, the better off you’ll be. How so? You can essentially choose not to engage with that person anymore. Instead, spend time with people who accept and understand you for who you are. It can be tricky. But knowing who your social group is and that you can trust them will make all the difference to your social health.
One of the biggest misconceptions by so many people is that spirituality and religion are the same thing. News flash! They’re not. Looking at the definition of religion states that it’s a particular system of worship and faith. Meaning you have a belief in a deity and so on. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this. But it’s not spirituality, nor is it spiritual health-related. You can be spiritual without being religious. Spiritual health concerns yourself, your soul, and the human spirit.
Focusing on yourself at various times throughout the day can help you maintain healthy spiritual health. Contemplation and meditation are often associated with spiritual practices because they can bring forward things that are usually tucked away in your mind.
Our intellectual health is a final area of health that we don’t think of at all. The saying, if you don’t use it, you lose it, applies heavily to this area of health. Ideally, you want to spend time each day learning new things or even just reviewing things you’ve learned in the past. This will help keep your mind healthy and improve your overall intellectual health. Of course, if memory is a problem for you or you have issues with retention, perhaps something like Alpha GPC can be of assistance.
Alpha GPC is a nootropic that assists with mental processing. It can improve memory, attention span, and concentration. You can order yours by clicking here.
